When the D.O. Toro was established in 1987, Roberto San Ildefonso de Rioja was one of the few winegrowers who saw the true potential of the region. His estate and wine cellar, Finca Sobreño, was one of the first of the ten established in the then new denomination, which today includes more than 50 producers.
Finca Sobreño's first vintage in 1999 immediately won praise and became recognized for its personality
The winery sits on 24 hectares of vineyards but the estate includes a total of 80, twenty-five of which are certified organic. The vineyards have an average age of 30 years and many vines are pre-phylloxera, that is, they are planted directly without grafting.
